Open Studio: Thursday 21st January

Jamie Lau works in photography, video and sculpture. His latest series The Dark Ages explores the relationship between commerce and social isolation set against the backdrop of fast food culture. Photographing take-away restaurants at night he presents them isolated in a black limbo, illuminated like beacons in the night. For his Whisper residency he will be developing the series by combining the fast food restaurants in Manchester with backdrops shot in the Peak District. He will be creating fictional landscapes combining the built environment with the natural world, pictorial metaphors for unsympathetic human development and commercial expansion.

Jamie Lau lives and works in London. He is currently studying for an MA in Sculpture at The Slade School of Fine Art.
