BREATHE RESIDENCY

Yu-Chen Wang
22 February - 14 May 2011
Open Studio: 11-14 May 2011

Working primarily in drawing and video, Yu-Chen's practice explores the notion of representation, distortion and transformation. She is curious about the subject of everyday objects and surroundings and how she can add individual elements to these to transform them into something extraordinary.

Yu-Chen's drawings hold a heavy focus on exploring the possibilities of line, shape and shading as another dimension to space, rather than merely depictions of objects and places. During her residency at Chinese Arts Centre she will be focusing on this architectural approach to space, creating interventions in a new drawing installation and video work, linking directly to Manchester's industrial past and contemporary urban landscape.

To find out more about your views and stories of Manchester's indsutrial past Yu-Chen is inviting the general public to the second of her Taiwanese Tea Parties. In exchange for your stories and knowledge about Manchester's industry, old and new, Yu-Chen will share her knowledge of Taiwanese Tea and serve some up for you to try. Come along on Saturday 9 April anytime between 2-4pm to our teahouse. All welcome!

As part of Yu-Chen's residency she will also be running a series of artist Breakfast Clubs every other Saturday as of 19 March, where local artists are invited to come along, share their thoughts, ideas and current works in progress over some Taiwanese style breakfast made by the artist herself. The breakfast club dates are 11.30-1.30 on 16 April and 30 April. For more information about any getting involved in any of these events then please contact:
