Wang Jun
20th January – 23rd April 2010
Open Studio: – 15 – 22nd April
The focus of Wang Jun’s work is the evolving nature of the Chinese as they adapt to dramatic shifts in the social framework. Wang makes works from the perspective of microscopic studies of the minutia of the everyday in an attempt to recover the unique qualities of the Chinese community.
During his Breathe Residency, Wang Jun will visit the homes of Manchester artists. Working in collaboration, he wishes to observe the traits and features of social spaces within the home. He hopes to collate these dialogues into a curatoral project that brings together artists from Manchester and Chongqing, juxtaposing the work from the two cities. The project attempts to discuss the inherited social codes that connect an individual to their own culture and social groupings.
Based at 501 Artspace in Chongqing, Wang Jun is an artist who works across a variety of media. On a daily basis Wang Jun will make paintings, drawings and photographs. The influence of his new environment will resolve into a specifically created installation or performance for the open studio at the end of the residency.
