Leung Po-Shan, Anthony

Anthony Leung Po Shan

6 October – 6 November 2006

Hong Kong born Chinese artist Leung Po-shan Anthony is a cross-boundary practitioner who plays with images, texts and the body in theater, performance, installation and writings. Her seemingly cruel or even masochistic acts invite the viewer into a play of desire, which then transcends the merely subject-object relation into an introversive dialogue.

Her recent project “Shadow-in-time” is a series of duration performances and installations across a variety of sites, which shares her contemplation in time on the ephemerality of the body and our existence.

Leung Po-shan, Anthony launched her open studio with a durational performance on Thursday 26 Oct 2006. In contrast to her exploration of sexuality in theatre and socially engaging “artivist” projects in public spaces, the performance is an introversive journey in time. Illuminated by burning light source (the sun or candle), Leung will mark the ever-changing silhouette of the shadows pin by pin. The action will mark the passing of time suggesting the impermanence of our physical world. Visitors are invited to witness the durational performance and share the meditative moments.

The event will be an introduction to the Hong Kong born Chinese artist also present ed another interactive one-on-one performance at Vital International Chinese Live Art festival on 3 November.
