During her residency at Chinese Arts Centre, Karen Tang will create an interior environment inspired by Manchester’s urban architecture and various cultural scenes. She will build a series of modular sculptural objects, which use flat-pack construction methods, combined with modeled sections, patterned surfaces and found objects.
The forms, textures, surfaces of these sculptures will reference Manchester’s industrial history and future urban developments. By reacting to her new surroundings around Manchester, Karen hopes to expand her current working methods, which have been influenced by experiencing new architectural and interior surfaces during trips to Mexico, Rome, Moscow and the Pearl River Delta.
