Chinese Arts Centre is excited to announce a new initiative, The People's Residency. The scheme gives the public an opportunity to select who we have here as artist-in-residence in Spring/Summer 2012, provides a unique insight into the residency process and access to exclusive events.
The scheme is led by the people, funded by the people and by essentially brought to life by the people – 100 donations of just £35 will fully support a 3-month live/work residency for a lucky artist.
Sally Lai, Chinese Arts Centre Chief Executive:
"We've always had so much interest in the residency programme. As an organisation that doesn't have paid exhibitions we couldn't offer free admission as a membership benefit so instead we came up with this scheme. We're hoping that people think being able to get involved in the selection and getting an exclusive insight into the residency progress are good benefits."
With similar principles to crowd funding the scheme relies on the relatively small contributions of a large number of people. We are looking for 100 people to support the scheme with donations of just £35.
In exchange for their donations the supporters will get:
- A unique insight into our residency programme
- A chance to vote for the artist they want to see here at the Centre
- Access to exclusive members only artist talk
- Invites to afternoon tea with the artist
- Special previews of the Open Studio
- Monthly e-updates
