Public Art Commissioning Opportunities for East Asian Artists

CALLING ALL EAST ASIAN ARTISTSPublic Art Commissioning OpportunitiesAs part of Chinatown Arts Festival 2008: Five Circles, Chinatown Arts Space and Chinatown’s principal landowner, Shaftesbury PLC, are working in creative partnership to commission two major new pieces of exciting public art for London’s Chinatown. These are two significant opportunities for East Asian artists to win a prestigious commission and see their work showcased in the heart of a major capital city. Gordon Cheung: Death by a Thousand Cuts

The title of Gordon Cheung’s first solo exhibition at Chinese Arts Centre is a playful dark reference to the cut/paste techniques that he uses to depict post-apocalyptic landscapes. Swiss-Chinese installation artist Ping Qiu ceramic vessels are sensual, sexual, playful, strangely comforting expressions of the human form. During her residency at Chinese Arts Centre Ping has been creating several works varying in size which celebrate the female form and female strength with particular reference to child birth.
