Chinese Arts Centre Summer Newsletter

Welcome to Chinese Arts Centre’s Summer Newsletter

This summer we have a number of exciting things happening.

Our Next Preview
On the 16 July we have our preview of Birdhead’s exhibition. This will be the first solo exhibition by the Shanghai based duo in UK. Jessica Tsang, our current artist-in-residence, will also be opening her studio to show work in progress. We look forward to seeing you then! Read more >>

We will also be providing people with an exclusive opportunity to own a piece of Chinese contemporary art through the launch of Birdhead’s project, BAG (Birdhead Affordbale Game). 10 of internationally renowned Chinese artists have given Birdhead the rights to reproduce an image from their work. The images will be printed and installed at the buyer’s home or office and framed with a sprayed stencil frame designed by the duo. The pieces are priced at the equivalent of 24 Big Mac meals. Visit www.bagart.org to choose your image and frame and contact Chinese Arts Centre to make bookings.

Open Studio
Jessica Tsang, our Breathe artist-in-residence, will be having an open studio on 15 – 21 August.

Manchester International Festival
If you are visiting Manchester for the Manchester International Festival you will be able to meet our artist-in-residence Jessica Tsang.
Also look out for Yingmei Duan, our next artist-in-residence, who is performing in Marina Abramovic presents…. at the Whitworth Art Gallery.

Out and About
Later this summer will be will also be having a stand at the Exodus Festival at Urbis on 2 August. We will have one of our workshop leaders Mary Tang doing calligraphy at the stall, so if you want your name written in Chinese calligraphy come to see Mary.

Opportunities
Chinese Arts Centre’s website now has an opportunities section. This will be regularly updated with opportunities as they arise so check back regularly. At the moment we are taking bookings for 1-to-1 surgeries, which are open to all artists.

Good news from the Venice Biennale
Ming Wong, who showed with us in 2004, was not only representing Singapore at the biennale but also got a Special Mention. Well done Ming! If people are visiting the biennale before it ends look out for the Singapore Pavilion and Dinu Li’s work in the New Forest Pavilion.

Guanghwa Books at Chinese Arts Centre
Chinese Arts Centre now has a Guanghwa Books outlet stocking Chinese art materials and a range of Chinese books including language books.

Special Offer
Chinese Arts Centre is pleased to once again be a cultural partner of the Buy Art Fair at the end of September. Buy Art Fair is offering subscribers of Chinese Arts Centre’s newsletter free entry for those people pre-registering.

And Finally
Between now and September Chinese Arts Centre is doing a survey of our audience. If you are able to spare 5mins please complete this questionnaire, it would be really appreciated.

Please note that we are moving more towards e-invites for our previews so if you would like to receive invitations please join our mailing list.
